Calabar Metropolis Traffic: DOPT DG moves into Decongesting Traffic along Marian Market



The Director General Cross River State Department of Public Transport (DOPT) Comr. Goddy Nyiam was at the busy Marian Market Junction on Tuesday to enforce strategic operation aimed at decongesting traffic within the area.

The Marian Market Junction before now was commonly known for traffic congestion and high level of commercial activities. Thus the need for measures that will ease free flow of traffic in the area.

Speaking to taxi drivers and traders along the roadside of Marian market, Comr. Nyiam advised them to relocate to a place that won't obstruct the free flow of traffic around the area. In his exact words "it will be better for all of us if you can maintain meters off the road to enable vehicles move freely". The DG also advised pedestrians to use the pedestrian bridge while crossing the road for easy vehicular movement in area.

Signposts with traffic signs were also erected to regulate traffic along the area. Comr. Nyiam also advised taxi drivers plying the route to obey standing traffic rules so as to open up the area for free flow of vehicular movement.
