The Director General of Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority, Comr. Kingsley Ikpeme has described the demise of Chief John Odey as a sad development that will create in Vacuum in the PDP family in Cross River State and in Nigeria at large.
In a condolence message signed by the Director General, which reads:
"On behalf of the Board and Management of Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority, I commiserate with the family of Hon Chief (Sir) John Ogar Odey KSJ, our digital Governor Sen (Prof) Ben Ayade, the People's Democratic Party and the good people of Cross River State on the sudden demise of Sir John O. Odey at the age of 59 years after brief illness. The deceased until his untimely demise was a worthy ambassador of Cross River State, pillar of strength to many, an achiever par excellence, a devoted Christian who rose to the rank of a ruling knight in the Roman Catholic Church, a charismatic leader, Humble, unassuming and a dedicated husband, a discipline father who has performed one of the major responsibilities of responsible fatherhood by bringing up his children and family in the way of the Lord, a sincere politician and strong faithful of the People's Democratic Party, a loyal servant leader who stood by his boss H. E. Late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua even till death and the PDP as an opposition party in the country.
Mr. John Odey will be remembered for the giant stride and uncommon transformation he introduced while handling different offices, as commissioner for agriculture Cross River State, Treasurer of the PDP in Cross River State, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, former Minister of Information and Communication and former Minister of Environment.
I console with the bereaved family, the Governor and the PDP family and Cross Riverians in this moment of grief but urge the family to take consolation in the fact that eternity is a destination for every mortal that threads the path of life. Inspite of this knowledge, we express grief when someone dear to us is gone, not like those without hope, but with divine assurance that God who permitted it all, will give his gentle soul eternal rest and his beloved family the fortitude to bear this heart breaking, irreparable and inescapable loss.
To our amiable and digital Governor, the PDP and the good people of Cross River State, as we go through this painful moment, I urge us to look beyond his demise and be consoled in the fact that late John Ogar Odey lived a life worthy of emulation that all who came across him will justifiably be proud of.
Indeed Cross River State, the People's Democratic Party and the Federal Republic of Nigeria will miss him greatly, as his death has created a vacuum. As he will be laid to rest on the 7th of November 2018, I urge the PDP family and the good people of Cross River State to be comforted that John never passed through this world quietly but left a legacy of positive contributions for generations to be inspired.
Rest in peace Mr. John Ogar Odey."
